Traffic Officers Suspended After Assaulting Biker in Islamabad

Islamabad:  A video showing traffic police officers assaulting a motorcyclist in Islamabad has prompted the suspension of the officers involved, pending an inquiry.

According to details, the action was ordered by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (retd) Hamza Humayun after the footage went viral on social media. The incident occurred when a motorcyclist allegedly crossed a police barrier set up to control protest-related movement.

The video showed officers manhandling the rider and throwing his helmet to the ground. A police spokesperson said the biker had introduced himself as a government agency official and forced his way through the barricade onto the expressway.

An argument reportedly broke out after the motorcyclist misbehaved with the officers. Following the incident, the traffic officials involved were suspended until completion of the departmental inquiry.

CTO Hamza Humayun emphasized that any misuse of authority by uniformed personnel would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Patients Stranded as Road Blockades Paralyze Twin Cities

Serious patients remained stranded on roads in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Saturday as major highways, intersections, and streets were blocked due to ongoing protests by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers.

The blockade of key routes brought traffic to a standstill, forcing residents of the twin cities to remain confined to their homes. Ambulances and vehicles carrying patients faced severe delays as protesters continued to block main and link roads.

According to media reports, the TLP rally, which began from Lahore on Friday, has now reached Muridke. The Punjab government has deployed a heavy contingent of police to prevent protesters from advancing toward Islamabad.

It is pertinent to mention that the TLP has announced a protest demonstration outside the US Embassy in Islamabad, prompting heightened security and traffic restrictions across the twin cities.
