Thunderstorms, Snow Likely in Northern Areas from Nov 4

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of rain, wind, and thunderstorms accompanied by snowfall over the mountains in the upper parts of the country from November 4, as a westerly weather system approaches Pakistan.

According to the PMD, a westerly wave is likely to enter the upper regions on the night of November 3 and persist until November 5, bringing a marked drop in temperatures across the northern and central parts of the country.

Affected Areas

Under the influence of this weather system, rain-windstorms and thunderstorms with snowfall over the mountains are expected in:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, and Galliyat.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir: Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar from November 4 to the morning of November 5.

The PMD has also warned of isolated hailstorms in some of these regions during the period.

Rain Forecast for Punjab & Islamabad

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, and Lahore on November 4, where isolated hailstorms may also occur.

Air Quality Outlook

The Met Office stated that day temperatures will drop significantly during the wet spell, followed by a further decline in night temperatures.

The ongoing fog and smog conditions in parts of Punjab are expected to subside temporarily during the rainy period but may reappear afterwards.

Advisory 

The PMD advised farmers to plan their field activities according to the forecast, while travelers and tourists, especially those heading to hilly areas, should exercise caution due to possible rain, snowfall, and slippery conditions.

The department also warned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could damage loose structures in exposed areas.
