Three New Polio Cases Confirmed in Pakistan

Islamabad: At least three new polio cases have emerged in Pakistan, affecting children in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh.
These recent infections bring the total number of polio cases in the country to 21.
Among the new cases is a 9-month-old girl from Mohmand district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, a 15-month-old child in Qila Abdullah district of Balochistan, and a 3-and-a-half-year-old child in Kemari district of Karachi.
In addition, the polio virus has been detected in sewage samples from Lahore and Rawalpindi, with specific findings reported by Khizr Afzal, the in-charge of the anti-polio program.
The virus has been identified in the sewage from Gulshan-e-Ravi, Outfall Road, and Mahmood Buti in Lahore, as well as from the Safdarabad and Sarai Kalan areas of Rawalpindi.
Khizr Afzal emphasized that the poliovirus is continuously circulating in environmental samples from Rawalpindi, underscoring the ongoing challenge of eradicating polio in Pakistan.
