Thousands Affected as Punjab Ends Sehat Card Services in Govt Hospitals
News Desk
Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to end Sehat Card medical services in public sector hospitals across the province starting June 30.
According to an official notification issued to medical superintendents, the Sehat Card Company has instructed government hospitals to halt all services under the scheme beyond the specified date.
The Sehat Card, a flagship health insurance program introduced during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tenure, offered free medical treatment to eligible residents.
However, the initiative has now been restructured under a new health program launched by the current Punjab chief minister.
Under the revamped system, the provincial government has introduced specialized medical cards tailored for specific treatments. These include separate cards for corneal, cochlear, and bone marrow transplants, as well as for dialysis and kidney and liver transplants.
A dedicated Child Card Surgery program has also been initiated, focusing on cardiac care for children.
Officials from the provincial health department have assured that patients will continue to receive medical assistance through this new targeted healthcare initiative, despite the phasing out of the original Sehat Card scheme.
