Terror Attack in Kohat: One Officer Injured, Terrorist Killed

Kohat: In a disturbing terrorist attack on Tuesday, a police mobile was targeted with hand grenades in Kohat’s Shadipur area, according to the regional police officer (RPO).
One police officer was injured in the assault, while a terrorist was killed in the police’s retaliatory fire. Several militants were also apprehended during the counterattack, the RPO added.
Weapons, including hand grenades, were seized from the arrested militants, and a search operation is ongoing in the area to gather further information on the terrorists responsible for the attack.
This attack comes amid a significant rise in terrorist incidents across the country, with January 2025 seeing a 42 percent increase in attacks compared to December 2024, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
The think tank reported that at least 74 militant attacks occurred nationwide in January, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 people were injured, including 53 security personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was the most affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s settled districts, militants carried out 27 attacks, leaving 19 dead, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants.
The tribal districts of KP, formerly known as FATA, saw 19 attacks, resulting in 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
