News Desk
Islamabad: Sky gazers are in for a celestial spectacle as the first Supermoon of 2025 is set to brighten the night sky on October 7, promising a mesmerizing view for observers and photographers alike.
According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the Supermoon will reach its peak at 8:47 p.m. PST, when the Moon comes closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit, appearing significantly larger and brighter than usual.
A Supermoon appears up to 14 percent larger and nearly 30 percent brighter than an average full moon. On October 7, the Moon will be approximately 224,599 miles (361,495 kilometers) from Earth—about 6.6 percent larger and 13 percent brighter than a typical full moon.

The Supermoon will rise in the east shortly after sunset and set in the west before dawn, offering several hours of viewing opportunity across Pakistan and around the world.
Adding to the celestial charm, the planet Saturn will appear near the Moon, visible toward the west (left) during the evenings of October 6 and 7.
SUPARCO noted that this will not be the only Supermoon of the year. The brightest Supermoon of 2025 is expected in November, when the Moon will be just 221,817 miles (357,000 kilometers) away from Earth.
Two more Supermoons are predicted to grace the skies on November 5 and December 5, marking a spectacular finale to the year for astronomy enthusiasts.
