News Desk
Islamabad: In a significant development, a special parliamentary committee, consisting of both government and opposition members, has approved the draft for the 26th Constitutional Amendment, according to a private news channel on Friday.
Khursheed Shah, the chairman of the special committee, announced that the committee unanimously approved the draft for the proposed constitutional amendments.
The package contains 36 points, with most of the proposed changes focusing on judicial reforms.
Sources revealed that the committee also gave final approval for establishing a constitutional bench within the Supreme Court.
The draft, initially prepared by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), was amended by the government before being approved.
The agreement was reached last night at the residence of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari agreeing to the draft.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman will now engage with the PTI to seek their support for the proposed amendments related to judicial benches. The government is expected to present the first half of the draft for parliamentary approval tomorrow.
