SLF’s Nature Walk and Talk Raises Awareness on World Wildlife Day

Islamabad: During a recent event in Islamabad organised by the Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF) to commemorate World Wildlife Day, speakers emphasised the day’s significance as a call to action, urging continued efforts to safeguard the Earth’s invaluable biodiversity.

They reiterated SLF’s dedication to fostering a deep connection between people and the natural world and promoting a culture of conservation for future generations.

Dr Jaffer Ud Din, Deputy Director of SLF, stressed the pressing need to combat wildlife crime and halt the human-induced decline of species.

Dr Din also highlighted SLF’s comprehensive approach to conservation, incorporating scientific research, awareness campaigns, education initiatives, and community-based projects.

The SLF marked the occasion alongside members of the Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, and Chitral communities at Margalla Hills in Islamabad.

The participants emphasised that World Wildlife Day serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial role wildlife plays in our ecosystems and the urgent need for global conservation efforts.

They recognised the intricate interdependence between humans and wildlife, particularly in mountain communities where biodiversity resources are vital for sustenance and cultural practices.

To commemorate the day, SLF organised an “Nature Walk and Talk” awareness hike, engaging participants in discussions on wildlife conservation and the preservation of natural habitats.

Dr Jaffer Ud Din led a session underscoring the significance of World Wildlife Day and the critical role of conservation efforts in Pakistan’s mountainous regions.

Dr Shoaib Hameed of SLF conducted a demonstration on camera trapping and wildlife monitoring techniques, showcasing innovative conservation methods. Participants expressed admiration for these technological advancements and shared anecdotes of their own conservation initiatives within their communities.

In a World Wildlife Day message, the Director of SLF, Dr Muhammad Ali Nawaz, emphasised the importance of supporting government initiatives to address climate change, reduce emissions, and protect biodiversity. SLF reiterated its commitment to collaborating with governmental bodies and empowering local communities engaged in conservation activities.
