The Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

London: Donald Trump , the former USA president narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on his life with a minor ear injury when addressing an election rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee for president and a principal challenge to Joe Biden.
The world leaders were quick to condemn the incident. Joe Biden, the USA president, also condemned the assassination attack saying that there is“no place for this kind of violence” in the United States.
Trump allegedly was shot at by a 20-year-old Thomas Mathew Crooks who was killed on the spot by the security services. However, the motive for the attack on Donald Trump remains unclear.
Authorities have found bomb-making materials in the car of the man.
One member of the public died and the two others are critically ill. The Pennsylvania state governor identified the victim as Corey Comperatore, age 50.
The FBI states it is investigating the shooting as “potential domestic terrorism” and that the gunman acted alone.
The assassination attempt will undoubtedly benefit Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency. It will consolidate his supporters and help to galvanise public opinion in his favour.
Already, the political knives are out for Joe Biden. He is being directly accused of fanning hatred against Trump.
It should not go missed with the readers that Donald Trump is the first former president to be convicted of a felony, found guilty of 34 counts in a Manhattan court back in May.
In addition to the conviction in Manhattan, Trump faces 57 more felony counts across one state court and two different federal districts, any of which could potentially produce a prison sentence.
The assassinations of presidents in the United States is not unknown: Robert Kennedy was the fourth US president to be assassinated. Prior to Kennedy three other presidents-Abraham Lincoln (1865), James Garfield (1881) and William McKinley (1901) were assassinated while Ford and Reagan also suffered assassination attempts.
The history of United States is replete with violence and killings both within and outside of its borders as the result of its illegal interventions and wars against weaker nations.
America is perhaps only country in the world where a person involved and charged with criminal offences can contest for the highest office of President.
However, any kind of violence act to sabotage political freedoms is abominable and must be condemned.
