Sindh CM Assesses Mauryo Band After Torrential Rains
News Desk
Larkana: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah visited Larkana on Tuesday to review the situation at the Mauryo Band dam as heavy rainfall wreaks havoc.
He directed the irrigation department officials to closely monitor the Mauryo Band dam and ensure its reinforcement, given the recent damage to crops.
CM Shah warned of another possible spell of heavy rains on August 25 and 26, which could lead to flooding, and reviewed preparatory measures for these potential challenges.
During the visit, Sindh Irrigation and Food Department Minister Jam Khan Shoro and Irrigation Department Secretary Zarif Khuhro reported that the canals originating from the right bank of the Sukkur Barrage have been closed due to the heavy rainfall. Of the 328 canals on the right bank, only the Dadu canal remains open.
CM acknowledged that rainfall has exceeded meteorological forecasts and expressed concern about the water flow from Koh Sulaiman and other mountainous areas, as well as issues with rainwater accumulation in Hamal Lake, MNV Drain, and Manshar Lake.
