Sidra Murder Case: High-Level Probe Uncovers Shocking Confessions

News Desk

Rawalpindi: The murder investigation of 19-year-old Sidra Arab Gul has taken a significant turn, with key suspects including the victim’s husband and father-in-law making major revelations during police interrogation, reported by ARY News Channel.

Authorities confirmed that individuals involved in the jirga (tribal council) that allegedly ordered Sidra’s killing have also confessed to their roles in the crime.

Sidra, a newlywed, was reportedly murdered by her first husband, Zia-ur-Rehman, in Rawalpindi’s Pirwadhai area earlier this week after a jirga declared her marriage to another man unacceptable.

The brutal killing has sparked outrage, prompting a high-level investigation team to gather extensive evidence and interrogate all involved parties.

According to police sources, both Zia-ur-Rehman and his father have admitted to their involvement and shed light on the events leading up to the murder. Their statements are now central to the ongoing probe into the jirga’s illegal ruling and its execution.

New details have emerged confirming that Sidra had married Usman, a resident of Chehla Bandi in Muzaffarabad, on July 12, 2025, without the consent of her family.

Official documents and a recorded statement before a judicial magistrate confirm she had married Usman of her own free will and sought protection, citing threats from her family.

Usman surrendered to police on the night of July 26 amid growing fears of false accusations. His father, Muhammad Ilyas, shared in a video statement that Sidra had turned to their family to escape a forced marriage arranged by her relatives in Rawalpindi.

He also revealed that their home was raided by ten armed men just four days after the marriage, and Sidra was forcibly taken away after her family promised a “respectful farewell.”

Two days later, news of her murder surfaced in the media, prompting Ilyas to turn Usman over to the police and request protection for his family, who continue to face threats.

Authorities have not yet disclosed how many individuals from the jirga have been arrested or whether more suspects are being sought.

However, they confirmed that all facilitators and key participants in the tribal ruling and subsequent killing are under investigation.

The case has raised renewed concerns about the illegal practice of jirgas in urban areas like Rawalpindi and the urgent need for enforcement of women’s legal protections under Pakistani law.
