Islamabad: Former captain Shahid Afridi praised Afghanistan’s remarkable progress in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting their impressive teamwork and ability to handle pressure positively.
He noted their historic achievement in reaching their first-ever semi-final, underscoring victories against strong teams like New Zealand, Australia, and Bangladesh.
Afridi emphasized that such success not only boosts Afghanistan’s national pride but also enhances cricket’s global appeal by challenging perceptions of minnows in the sport, inspiring young cricketers worldwide to aim high.
He singled out key players contributing to Afghanistan’s success, including Rashid Khan’s leadership, the strong opening partnership, and effective bowling by pacers like Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq.
Afridi expressed confidence in Afghanistan’s prospects, suggesting that their victories against formidable opponents demonstrate their capability to lift the World Cup trophy.
Reflecting on the semi-finals, Afridi welcomed the prospect of a new finalist between Afghanistan and South Africa, highlighting the refreshing unpredictability of this year’s competition.
