Seven Peace Committee Members Killed in Bannu Attack

Bannu/Islamabad: Seven members of a local peace committee were killed on Friday when unidentified terrorists attacked the committee’s office in Bannu, police said.

According to a police spokesman, armed militants opened fire on the Peace Committee office in the Hoveed area, triggering a fierce clash that left seven members dead. The identities of the victims were yet to be confirmed. Police reached the scene immediately and launched a search operation in the surrounding area.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned what he described as an attack by Fitna al-Khawarij, expressing deep grief over the loss of lives. He prayed for the elevation of the deceased in Jannah and patience for their families.

The prime minister directed authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators, saying such “cowardly acts aimed at sabotaging peace efforts” would not weaken the nation’s resolve. “The entire nation stands united for the defeat of anti-state elements,” he added.

Meanwhile, Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani expressed sorrow over a separate incident in Faisalabad, where a boiler explosion at a chemical factory claimed multiple lives.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the departed souls, and wished a swift recovery for the injured. Gillani also instructed relevant authorities to provide all necessary medical assistance to those affected.
