News Desk
Lahore: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday issued a damage assessment report following heavy monsoon rains across various districts of the province over the past 24 hours.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, seven people lost their lives and seven others were injured in rain-related incidents, mostly due to the collapse of poorly maintained and dilapidated structures.
Among the fatalities, a child died when a rundown building collapsed in Rawalpindi. In another tragic incident in Kallar Syedan, three children drowned while swimming during the rainfall. The overall victims include a woman, two men, and four children, the spokesperson added.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia directed local authorities to ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured and to provide compensation to the victims’ families in accordance with Punjab government policy.
He also urged citizens to remain vigilant during the ongoing monsoon spell, which is expected to continue until July 10.
“Residents should avoid staying in weak or damaged buildings, remain in safe locations, and limit unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions,” the DG advised.
