Senate Endorses 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill

Islamabad: The Senate on Monday passed the Constitutional amendment bill  (Twenty-Seventh Amendment Bill, 2025), with a two-thirds majority, securing 64 votes, while the opposition staged a walkout.

Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the bill  further to amend the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan [The Constitution (Twenty-seventh Amendment) Bill, 2025], as reported by the Standing Committee in the House.

The constitutional amendment was passed through clause-by-clause voting, with Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reading out each amended clause for approval.

NA Refers Two Amendment Bills to Committees

The National Assembly on Monday referred two amendment bills to the relevant standing committees for detailed discussion and deliberation.

The bills include the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Iqbal Academy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, both tabled by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

During the session, three committee reports were also presented before the House. These reports were submitted by the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control.

President, PM Laud Forces for Anti-Terror Operations

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday paid rich tributes to Pakistan’s security forces for their successful intelligence-based operations against terrorist elements of Fitna-ul-Khawarij in Shawal, North Waziristan, and Darra Adam Khel.

President Zardari commended the security forces for their courage and professionalism, describing the success of the operations as a reflection of the nation’s unity and unwavering resolve. He said the Fitna-ul-Khawarij and their India-backed facilitators were enemies of Pakistan’s peace and stability.

He reaffirmed the national resolve to root out terrorism, emphasizing that the elimination of foreign-backed militants was being carried out with complete national consensus. The president also paid tribute to the martyrs and lauded the armed forces’ dedication, stating that operations under Azm-e-Istehkam would continue until terrorism was eradicated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also hailed the security forces for killing 20 terrorists during the successful operations. He said the armed forces stood as a solid wall in defense of the nation, with the entire country saluting their sacrifices.

“The protection of Pakistan is our foremost priority, and we remain resolute in eliminating every form of terrorism,” the prime minister affirmed.
