Section 144 Extended in Punjab Till Nov 8
News Desk
Lahore/Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days to maintain law and order and prevent potential security threats.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department on Sunday, the existing restrictions on protests, rallies, processions, sit-ins, public gatherings, and similar activities will now remain in force until Saturday, November 8, 2025.
A Home Department spokesperson said that under Section 144, the assembly of four or more people in public places will continue to be strictly prohibited throughout Punjab. The ban also covers the display of firearms, use of loudspeakers, and the publication or distribution of inflammatory, hate-based, or sectarian material.
The spokesperson explained that the extension was made to safeguard public life and property and to counter any potential threats to peace and security. The decision follows intelligence reports indicating possible terrorist activities and law and order concerns.

However, the restrictions will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burial rites, government officials performing official duties, or court proceedings. The use of loudspeakers will remain permitted only for the call to prayer (Azaan) and Friday sermons.
The Home Department emphasized that large public gatherings, rallies, and sit-ins could serve as soft targets for terrorists and might be exploited by miscreants to create unrest. Therefore, the extension of Section 144 has been deemed necessary in the larger public interest.
Instructions have been issued to all district administrations for wide dissemination of the notification to ensure public awareness and compliance across Punjab.
