SCCI Urges FBR To Simplify Taxation System

Peshawar: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Acting President Ijaz Khan Afridi called for broadening the existing tax base and bringing more people under the net instead of further burdening the taxpayers.
Addressing an awareness seminar on ‘Tax Management System and E-filing of Returns’, Ijaz Khan urged the government and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take further steps to simplify the taxation system.
The training session was jointly organised by SCCI and FBR Regional Tax Office (RTO) Peshawar on Friday for the traders’ community to train them on the tax management system and e-filing of returns.
Afridi stated that traders are the foundation of the national economy so they should be facilitated, particularly by making their taxation system simpler which would aid in achieving the fiscal year’s target revenue collection.
RTO Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Riaz Ahmad and IT Expert Asif Ali Shah informed the participants regarding reforms in the existing taxation system that had been made by FBR, particularly bringing more ease to the submission of returns through the e-filing system.
Riaz Ahmad said FBR is a revenue-generating institution for the country that has conducted actions to collect taxes in accordance with the relevant legislation. However, it doesn’t mean that FBR took actions to add to the miseries of taxpayers, he added.
The country’s economic prosperity depends on the collection of revenue through taxes, stated the Deputy Commissioner, urging the participants to create awareness about the FBR’s role and responsibility.
A senior official said RTO Peshawar offers services to taxpayers under a one-window operation.
Asif Ali briefed participants regarding reforms in the taxation system and the procedure for e-filing of returns.
