Samsung Enhances Knox With Encryption, File Privacy

News Desk

On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled new features for Knox, its security management software, designed to enhance data protection on its devices. One feature focuses on secure file sharing, while the other offers end-to-end encryption for system backups.

Private Sharing in Samsung Knox

Samsung introduced “Private Sharing” within Quick Share, a new privacy-centric feature aimed at secure file transfers. This feature ensures that files such as photos, videos, and documents are accessible only to the intended recipient.

Users can enhance security further by setting expiration timers, selecting specific contacts for access, and imposing additional restrictions like blocking screenshots and enabling read-only mode. Access to shared files can be revoked at any time, and users can share up to 20 files at once, with a combined size limit of 200MB.

To activate Private Sharing, users need to select the file they wish to share, choose the Quick Share option, and then tap the three-dot menu at the top-right corner of the screen to enable Private Sharing.

Enhanced Data Protection

Samsung has also rolled out the “Enhanced Data Protection” feature for the Galaxy S24 and newer models.

This feature provides end-to-end encryption for data synced or backed up to Samsung Cloud, ensuring that the data remains secure even if account credentials are compromised or servers are breached.

Users will need to note a recovery code when first enabling the feature, which will be crucial if the device is lost. According to Samsung, even the company itself cannot access this encrypted data.
