Rhythm Legend Ustad Tafu Honored for Timeless Melodies

Multan: Celebrated tabla maestro and musician Altaf Hussain Tafu, famously known as Ustad Tafu, was remembered on Sunday for his unmatched contributions to Pakistani music.
Talented singer Rahat Bano Multanikr paid tribute to Ustad Tafu, lauding his artistry and describing him as the “King of Rhythm.”
Known for the iconic song “Sun Wey Bilaori Akh Waleya”, Ustad Tafu was recognized worldwide as a master tablist, although his skills extended to 11 musical instruments.
His musical direction in the 1970s film Anwara was pivotal, transforming it into a box-office success with his captivating compositions.

Ustad Tafu composed numerous memorable Punjabi songs for Pakistan’s legendary singer Noor Jehan, with his compositions including “Munda Shehr Lahore Da” (Ashgara, 1971), “Rub Jaandy Sanu Tu Mar Sutiya” (Sohra Tey Jawai, 1980), and “Main Jis Din Bhula Doun Tera Pyar Dil Se” (Khushboo, 1979).
“He was an icon of music, a king of rhythm who gave unforgettable Punjabi melodies,” Rahat remarked, adding that Ustad Tafu’s musical family included seven brothers, all dedicated to the craft.
A deeply spiritual artist, Ustad Tafu found solace in prayer and was devoted to the practice of Tahajud (early morning prayer). His musical legacy lives on through his sons, who continue to contribute to Pakistan’s music industry.
