Research Reveals TikTok’s View Count Removal on Gaza Content

News Desk
Islamabad: Researchers studying the social media platform TikTok have alleged that the platform removed the view counts of videos featuring hashtags related to Palestine and Gaza.
According to the Washington Post, these researchers found that videos under the hashtag “Stand with Palestine” amassed approximately 3 billion views, while those under “Stand with Israel” garnered only 200 million views.
Similarly, in Muslim-majority countries, including the United States, the hashtag “Free Palestine” gained popularity, with videos reaching over 700 million views. However, recent research indicates that TikTok has erased the view counts of videos associated with Palestine and Gaza hashtags.
TikTok, on the other hand, has claimed that it discontinued the feature of view counts with hashtags on its platform a month ago.
Interestingly, TikTok’s action to delete videos and topic view counts comes amidst accusations of concealing Israeli atrocities.
Other social media platforms have also faced allegations of censoring content related to Palestine and Gaza.
However, all platforms maintain that they remove content based on violent scenes in Palestine and Israel.
