Islamabad: At least five people, including two children lost their lives after being swept away by a flash flood in the Swat River on Friday morning, rescue officials said.
According to Rescue 1122, several individuals were caught in the sudden surge of water, believed to have been triggered by heavy upstream rainfall.
KP Rescue 1122 Director General talking to a local news channel said that the bodies of five people have been recovered so far from the Swat River following the flash flood.
He added that rescue teams are continuing search operations in the area, as several individuals are still believed to be missing.
Efforts are being made to locate the missing persons despite challenging weather and river conditions.
The Rescue 1122 official urged visitors and local residents to exercise extreme caution while travelling to mountainous and riverine areas, especially during the monsoon season.
He advised tourists to stay updated on weather forecasts and avoid venturing near rivers or streams during periods of heavy rainfall.
Travelers have also been requested to follow official advisories and cooperate with local authorities to ensure their safety.
“Unnecessary movement near water bodies can be life-threatening during flash flood alerts,” he warned.
