Rawalpindi: Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has warned citizens of a sharp rise in gas leak incidents during the winter season, attributing the increase to greater use of gas heaters and stoves in homes.

A spokesperson for the service said most recent accidents were caused by negligence, poor maintenance, and disregard for safety protocols, leading to fires, explosions, and suffocation cases that pose serious risks to life and property.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise extreme caution while using gas-operated appliances, ensuring that valves and regulators are properly closed after use.

Citizens were warned not to switch electrical devices on or off or ignite flames if they smell gas, as even a small spark could trigger a major accident. In such cases, all windows and doors should be opened to ventilate the area, and family members should move to a safe location immediately.

The spokesperson also emphasized regular servicing of gas heaters and stoves, avoiding old or damaged pipelines, and using certified appliances only. Installation and repairs should be carried out exclusively by trained professionals.

Residents are urged to report any gas-related emergencies immediately via helpline 1122, enabling rapid response and protection of lives and property. The spokesperson stressed that timely reporting is crucial for effective rescue operations.

He concluded by appealing to citizens to adopt precautionary measures, warning that even minor care could prevent major tragedies during the winter season.
