Renowned Pakistani Comedian Anwar Ali Passes Away At 76

Islamabad: Veteran stage and television comedian Anwar Ali passed away on Monday at the age of 76 after a prolonged battle with illness, his family confirmed.
Health struggles before his passing
According to family sources, the comedian had been suffering from lung and kidney complications for a long time. On Sunday, his condition worsened, and he was admitted to a hospital in Lahore’s Raiwind area. Despite doctors’ efforts, he could not recover and breathed his last the following day.
Legacy in stage and television comedy
Anwar Ali was celebrated for his sharp wit, impeccable comic timing, and remarkable contributions to Pakistan’s stage theatre and television. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, he performed in more than 1,000 plays, including the famous Lahore Arts Council’s production “Shaadi Ka Laddo.” His unique style of humour made him a household name and earned him immense admiration across generations of audiences.
A career of memorable roles
Throughout his 38-year career, Anwar Ali played numerous unforgettable roles that left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
Just last month, comedian Nasir Chinyoti had appealed to fans for prayers for Ali’s recovery, writing on social media:
“We kindly request all friends to pray for his speedy recovery and good health. May Allah grant him complete healing and strength. Ameen.”
A few weeks earlier, the veteran actor had also been admitted to a private hospital due to deteriorating health but was later discharged. At the time, doctors confirmed he was being treated for complications related to paralysis and heart disease.
Ali’s son shared that his father had been unwell for several months and his health had declined significantly before his final hospitalisation.
