‘Razia’: A Bold Story Explores Harsh Reality Women Confront
News Desk
Islamabad: Actress Mahira Khan will be seen in Express Entertainment’s upcoming short series ‘Razia’ which explores the harsh reality of being a woman in Pakistan.
Returning to the small screen after a long time, she will be seen playing a unique role as ‘Razia’.
Mahira last acted in 2021 in the drama ‘Hum Kahan Ke Sache Haye’, after which she has not acted in any drama; however, she was seen on the big screen in the film ‘Mola Jatt’ which was released in October 2022.
Khan had released a teaser earlier this week in which she wrote, “When I heard the story, I immediately gave a hearty yes. I’m grateful to be a part of this story.”
She shared the video of the trailer on her Instagram account and wrote, “Every woman I know is Razia, looks like Razia, or has met Razia. This is her story. For all of us, that represents us.”
What’s the story of Razia?
Although it is difficult to clearly gauge the story from the trailer, the less than three-minute video clip has a strong message that highlights various social issues in society related to women.
The trailer begins with Mahira’s voiceover, where she invites people to listen to Razia’s story with unique and bold sentences. It can be guessed from the trailer that Razia is trying to pave the way for women where women are kept under oppression and pressure.
Not only this, but Razia will also include aspects of social reformation related to women’s abuse and their rights.
Apart from this, other issues affecting women have also been highlighted, including harassment of women, child marriage, honour killings and domestic violence.
The actress tells the audience in the trailer that Razia’s story is not about a mother-in-law story, a romance, or the heroism of an abusive boy in the name of love, but the character is different from the usual themes.
What further message is conveyed in the short series and what direction the story takes can only be guessed after the release of the series.
The short series is directed by Mohsin Ali and produced by Hina Aman, while other famous actors like Momal Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Shehzad Malik and Parveen Akbar are among the cast of the series.
The release date for the short series has not been announced yet, but it is likely to be released this month.
