Rawalpindi’s Women on Wheels Makes Roads Safer for All

Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi is making significant strides in empowering women through its ‘Women on Wheels Program.’
In 2024, over 1,258 women received driving training, marking a pivotal achievement in promoting gender inclusivity in road safety.
A total of 2,796 citizens, including 1,258 women and 1,538 men, received training at the CTP Driving School last year. Notably, 112 women also learned to ride bikes and scooters as part of the program’s expansion.
In 2024, the CTP took significant steps to support this initiative by purchasing four new bikes/scooters specifically for the program. Additionally, female instructors were appointed for the first time in the driving training school, further enhancing the inclusivity of the program.
According to CTO Beenish Fatima, the CTP has introduced a modern driving simulator at the CTP Headquarters for the first time, offering a unique, immersive learning experience.
The simulator is equipped with all essential components, including gear, clutch, accelerator, steering wheel, and brake, allowing learners to practice in varied road conditions safely.
The initiative aims to provide the best possible driving training, with a focus on teaching traffic rules and responding correctly in difficult and emergency situations.
In terms of traffic management, the CTP Rawalpindi is utilizing all available resources to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain law and order on the roads.
During 2024, over 848,000 challans were issued for various traffic violations, amounting to fines of Rs 490 million. The CTP also registered 2,874 cases related to severe traffic rule violations.
The CTO outlined the detailed performance of the CTP throughout 2024, highlighting the extensive work done to ensure safety on the roads. A total of 17,654 challans were issued for one-way violations, 56,314 for negligent driving, and 162,982 for driving without licenses. Additionally, the CTP issued 49,591 fines for bikers not wearing safety helmets and impounded 163 vehicles for various infractions.
The CTP’s public awareness initiatives were also noteworthy, with 280 awareness lectures, 38 traffic walks, and 190 FM radio programs aired to educate the public on traffic rules. Furthermore, the CTP issued 108,796 new licenses, 174,744 driving learning permits, and 22,261 renewed old licenses in 2024.
Beenish Fatima emphasized the importance of citizens adhering to traffic rules to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduced road accidents. She also reiterated the commitment of the CTP’s education wing, which works tirelessly to create awareness among the public regarding road safety.
