Rawalpindi: Dengue cases in Rawalpindi have surged again following a brief decline, with 372 new patients diagnosed in the past three days, including a record-high of 160 cases in a single day.

The District Health Authority reported that 160 cases were recorded on Tuesday, followed by 117 on Wednesday and 95 on Thursday, averaging 124 new cases daily.

The number of positive cases had previously dropped to below 100 per day from October 12 onward.

However, the resurgence of the disease has led to an increase in hospitalizations, with 331 patients currently receiving treatment in various allied hospitals across the district.

Potohar Town Peri-Urban areas remain the hardest hit, with 60 cases reported in the last 24 hours alone. The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) areas have also been affected, registering 54 cases over the past two days.

In an interview with APP, Additional CEO of RCB, Haider Shuja, stated that the anti-dengue campaign has been intensified, with an emphasis on surveillance and public awareness.

He urged citizens to cooperate with health workers in their efforts to combat the disease. Shuja also mentioned that councilors and public representatives from various RCB wards have been encouraged to regularly visit their constituencies with health teams to raise awareness and support prevention efforts.

Authorities continue to call on the public to take preventive measures and remain vigilant as the district battles this renewed wave of dengue cases.
