Rawalpindi: Major allied hospitals in Rawalpindi have been placed on full alert after a province-wide emergency was declared across Punjab, with comprehensive contingency plans activated to ensure a swift medical response in case of any untoward situation.

At the District Headquarters Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Ikramullah Niazi said emergency arrangements had been finalized in line with directives issued by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the provincial health department.

Speaking to APP on Monday, Dr Ikramullah said that, in addition to the already operational trauma unit, a dedicated backup trauma team had been constituted to strengthen response capacity.

“One trauma team is already present at the hospital, while an additional team has been formed to ensure response within 30 minutes,” he stated.

He added that 40 beds in the emergency department had been kept vacant to handle potential casualties. Adequate stocks of essential medicines are available, with further supplies arranged to prevent shortages in the event of a crisis.

The hospital’s on-call system has been fully activated, along with backup and security mechanisms, including generator systems to guarantee uninterrupted power supply. All departments remain in close coordination to ensure a timely and organized response.

Meanwhile, at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Sharjeel Sheikh confirmed that a 50-bed contingency plan has been finalized. The hospital’s medical emergency department is currently operating with 24 beds.

He said special emergency contact numbers have been circulated to facilitate coordination and response, while all medical and paramedical staff have been placed on high alert to address any developing situation.

Similarly, Holy Family Hospital has implemented its emergency preparedness plan. Hospital management has placed wards, operation theatres, the blood bank and trauma centres on high alert to ensure uninterrupted medical services.

Authorities stated that all three major healthcare facilities are maintaining constant communication and coordination to ensure a prompt and effective response under the province-wide emergency arrangements.
