Islamabad: As the Ramzan festivity sweeps the country’s cities, a lot of seasonal merchants are selling religious goods including prayer mats, prayer beads, rosaries, prayer caps, and Islamic publications on various roads and in the vicinity of mosques in order to draw worshippers,

A vendor selling prayer mats in Sector G-6 said that during Ramzan, markets close to mosques become a hub for sales of prayer-related accessories.

Thousands of Muslims visit mosques during the holy month of Ramzan, stated a visitor, adding that this yearly increase in prayer attendance provides a windfall for those who sell prayer mats, rosaries, prayer caps, and keffiyeh scarves.

Numerous customers said that they drive from neighbouring towns to the marketplaces to buy prayer mats in large quantities. A merchant close to an F-10 mosque said that a variety of things imported from other nations are in high demand and also generate better earnings.

Another visitor to an F-10 mosque claimed that during the holy month, people buy prayer beads and perfumes as gifts. Muslim devotees use prayer rugs or mats during the holy month, and demand for and sales of these items have surged all over the nation as a result of this increased prayer and charitable giving.

Yet, the practise of inviting friends and family to sehri and iftar meals is also growing in popularity, so neighbourhood eateries are promoting ‘special deals’ to entice patronage during Ramadan.

Various hotels and restaurants during sehri and iftar times become lively during Ramadan, said a citizen, Muhammad Zeeshan, at a restaurant in Sector F-7.

Another female citizen told me that traditional deep-fried snacks like pakoras, samosas, jalebis, and kachoris are more in demand during the holy month of Ramadan, as the Iftar table is considered incomplete without these traditional fried food items.
