Rain, Storms Leave Four Dead, 28 Injured Across Punjab
News Desk
Lahore: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds wreaked havoc across several districts of Punjab over the past 24 hours, leaving at least four people dead and 28 others injured, besides causing widespread damage to houses and infrastructure.
According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the casualties occurred due to multiple roof and wall collapses triggered by the storm. Two children were killed and seven others injured when the roof of a house caved in at Tandlianwala.
In Nankana Sahib, one person died and four others sustained injuries in similar incidents in nearby villages. Three people were injured in Manawala, Sheikhupura, while another death and five injuries were reported from Kasur. In Lahore, two people were injured when parts of buildings collapsed amid gusty winds and rain.
Record Rainfall Reported
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported record rainfall in several districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours, with Multan receiving 113 mm, Faisalabad 78 mm, Bahawalpur 44 mm, and Lahore 40 mm of rain.
Other regions also experienced significant precipitation, including Khanewal (28 mm), Toba Tek Singh (25 mm), Sialkot (19 mm), Jhelum (18 mm), and Attock (10 mm).

A PDMA spokesperson said rainfall is expected to continue in most districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot, over the next 24 hours.
Rivers Expected to Swell
Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia warned that the ongoing spell could increase water flow in major rivers, including the Indus and Jhelum, while water levels in the Chenab are likely to rise by October 7.
He added that the flow in the Sutlej and Ravi would depend on water releases from Indian reservoirs, cautioning that adjacent tributaries might also experience rising water levels.
Authorities on Alert
All commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue teams have been placed on high alert across the province. DG Kathia urged citizens to stay indoors during strong winds or storms and avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding.
“Citizens are requested to take precautionary measures and remain in safe places during bad weather,” he said, adding that the public can contact the PDMA helpline (1129) in case of any emergency.
