Rain, Snow Bring Early Winter to Hazara

News Desk

Abbottabad: Continuous heavy rain lashed large parts of the Hazara division on Monday, while early-season snowfall at Babusar Top brought a sharp drop in temperatures and disrupted travel in the region.

According to reports, torrential rain began late Sunday night and continued throughout Monday across Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Battagram, and adjoining areas, leading to waterlogging on major roads and low-lying zones.

Daily life was disrupted as power outages were reported in several localities of Abbottabad and Mansehra due to tripping and technical faults caused by the persistent rain.

Meanwhile, Babusar Top and nearby high-altitude areas received a fresh spell of snowfall, transforming the surrounding peaks into a white landscape. The sudden cold snap forced residents and tourists to bring out warm clothing much earlier than usual.

Traffic on the Mansehra–Naran–Jalkhad (MNJ) Road slowed considerably due to slippery conditions, while vehicles heading toward Babusar Top faced severe difficulties. Authorities advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel to upper areas and to use snow chains where needed.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued rain and snowfall over the next 24 hours in parts of Hazara, warning of possible landslides in mountainous terrain and urging tourists to exercise caution.

The ongoing cold and wet spell has not only hampered normal routines but also signaled the early onset of winter across northern Hazara, bringing with it both picturesque scenery and mounting challenges for residents and travelers alike.
