Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across much of the country over the next 24 to 48 hours, including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Met Office, Islamabad is expected to see rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, with chances of heavy rainfall in some areas. “Partly cloudy weather is anticipated in the capital, though isolated heavy spells may occur,” a department spokesperson stated.

On Sunday, showers were reported in Murree, Mianwali, Attock, Jhang, South Waziristan, and Swat, offering temporary respite from the ongoing heatwave in parts of northern and central Pakistan.

In KP, rain is expected in Upper and Lower Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Peshawar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Charsadda. Additional districts such as Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Hangu, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan are also likely to experience rain.

In Punjab, while most areas will remain partly cloudy, intermittent rainfall is forecast for Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum. Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, and Nankana Sahib may also receive rain.

Scattered showers are expected in the southern and central districts of Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, and Bhakkar. Rain is also likely in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Hot and Humid Conditions in Sindh and Balochistan

While isolated rain is forecast, most parts of Sindh and Balochistan will remain hot and humid. Light to moderate rainfall may occur in Umerkot, Mithi, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Shikarpur. Coastal areas, including Karachi, are expected to have partly cloudy skies with a chance of light showers in some locations.

Balochistan will mostly experience dry and hot weather, although rain is expected in Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, Musakhel, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, Dera Bugti, Zhob, Khuzdar, and Lasbela.

Advisory Issued

The PMD has urged local authorities to stay alert in areas prone to heavy rain, which could lead to urban flooding or landslides, especially in hilly regions and poorly drained urban centers.

Farmers and travelers are also advised to plan ahead, considering the weather conditions, particularly in areas expected to receive significant rainfall in northern and central Pakistan.
