Rain, Flood Alert for Upper Punjab from Oct 5–7

Rawalpindi: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms in upper Punjab, particularly Rawalpindi, Gujranwala Division, and adjoining districts, from October 5 to 7.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, intense downpours in river catchments may cause a dangerous rise in water levels, while flash flooding in streams and Rawalpindi’s Nullah Lai cannot be ruled out.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on ground and ensure timely response to any emergency. He said district administrations had been ordered, under the chief minister’s directives, to finalize advance arrangements and mobilize all available resources to protect citizens.

The DG cautioned that water levels in rivers and seasonal nullahs were expected to swell, prompting relevant departments—including Health, Irrigation, C&W, Local Government, and Livestock—to be placed on alert.

Kathia also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, seek shelter during storms, and stay indoors during lightning. PDMA rescue teams, he added, were on standby, while citizens could report emergencies through the helpline 1129.
