Punjab Cancels Basant Events After Islamabad Tragedy

Lahore: The Punjab government has cancelled all Basant-related events scheduled for Saturday in the wake of the tragic incident in Islamabad, Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari announced on Friday.

She said the decision was taken on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, adding that the Basant show planned at Liberty Chowk had also been called off.

In a statement, Azma Bokhari said the Punjab government stood in solidarity with the families of the martyrs and shared their grief and pain, assuring them of all possible support during this difficult time.

She said hostile elements had always attempted to undermine Pakistan’s positive image at the global level, but emphasized that the government and the people remained united to foil such negative designs.

The provincial minister said terrorists had been confronted with resolve in the past and would continue to be dealt with firmly in the future. 

She stressed that the nation’s morale remained high, adding that the people of Pakistan would neither bow to terrorism nor surrender in the face of any challenge.
