Punjab announces free transport plan for Basant Festival 2026

Lahore: The Punjab government has unveiled a free transport plan for the Basant Festival 2026 to ensure smooth, affordable, and convenient travel for citizens across Lahore during the celebrations.
Under the plan, special bus services will operate on multiple routes throughout the city to facilitate large-scale public movement. A total of 199 buses from the Mass Transit Authority and Punjab Transport Company will be deployed, while an additional 131 buses from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) will also be pressed into service.
Officials said the buses will operate in shifts from designated depots, including Jinnah Terminal, Lahore Railway Station, and Green Town, which will serve as central hubs for the special transport operation.

The longest route under the plan will run from Jinnah Terminal to the BRB Canal, covering a distance of approximately 36 kilometres.
Authorities stated that the entire city will be covered through strategically divided routes to ensure maximum accessibility for residents and visitors. Special traffic management arrangements have also been made on major roads to handle the expected increase in commuters during the festival.
The free transport initiative aims to provide citizens with safe, convenient, and cost-free travel options, encouraging families and visitors to actively participate in Basant festivities across Lahore without facing transport-related difficulties.
