Lahore: Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise valuations hit a new high on Monday as Walee Technologies acquired a team at the league’s auction for a record Rs2.45 billion, underscoring growing corporate interest under the PSL’s revamped ownership model.
The Lahore-based firm secured the former Multan franchise after an intense bidding contest at the Expo Centre, Lahore, and later confirmed that the team would be rebranded as Rawalpindi ahead of the PSL 11 season.
The auction opened at a base price of Rs1.82 billion set by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with Walee Technologies entering the fray with an opening bid of Rs1.9 billion. The contest quickly escalated as CD Ventures and Particle Igniter joined the bidding, pushing the price well beyond initial expectations.
After a prolonged battle, Walee Technologies returned with a decisive bid of Rs2.45 billion—the highest amount ever paid for a PSL franchise—marking a milestone in the league’s commercial evolution.
The PCB had earlier approved five bidders for the Multan franchise, including Walee Technologies, Aim Next Inc, Deharki Sugar Mills, Particle Igniter and CD Ventures. However, Deharki Sugar Mills, owned by former franchise holder Ali Tareen, did not place any bids, indicating a complete exit from the team.
With the successful acquisition, Multan’s chapter in the PSL comes to an end after several seasons, as the franchise prepares to relaunch under a new city identity. Walee Technologies said formal rebranding details would be announced in the coming weeks, alongside accelerated squad-building and commercial planning.
The auction, which began at 6:35pm, highlighted rising confidence in the PSL’s new auction-based structure, as corporate bidders drove franchise prices to unprecedented levels. The PCB views the outcome as a strong signal of the league’s expanding commercial appeal ahead of PSL 11.
