Price Hikes Persist in Islamabad’s Streets

Islamabad: Despite claims of implementing proactive strategies to control artificial price hikes and ensure the sale of quality food items at dedicated Ramazan markets in the federal capital, street vendors continue to charge exorbitant prices for vegetables and fruits.
However, in major markets, prices of fruits and vegetables have been somewhat controlled.
The inflated prices include 80 potatoes instead of the standard 64, onions priced at 320 instead of 268, peas at 130 rupees instead of 75, ginger and garlic at 180 rupees, a dozen eggs at 300 rupees instead of 268, and live chickens at 450 rupees instead of 407.
Three individuals were arrested and taken to the police station for taking over trespassing carriages, while a fine of Rs 23,000 was imposed.
Additionally, two shops were sealed.
During the action against store owners who failed to set up DC counters at departmental stores in Multi Garden B-17, Magistrate Sadar Zone Mir Yameen imposed a fine of Rs 40,000.
