Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have urged the nation to rise above differences and unite for a Pakistan rooted in justice, equality, and service to all citizens.

In their separate messages on the occasion of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, being celebrated today, they extended heartfelt congratulations to Pakistanis across the country and around the world.

They emphasized that this day serves as a reminder of the courage, unity, and sacrifices that led to the creation of Pakistan. Both leaders paid tribute to the founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and all those who took part in the Pakistan Movement.

President Zardari noted that this Independence Day is being celebrated with renewed pride and hope, especially following the nation’s demonstration of resilience and unity during the recent external aggression in May this year. He highlighted Pakistan’s success in Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos as a reflection of national resolve, unity of purpose, and growing global recognition. He added that these victories have strengthened public confidence and reinforced trust in national institutions.

The President also expressed unwavering solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s continued diplomatic, moral, and political support for their right to self-determination.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, honored the martyrs who laid down their lives for Pakistan’s independence. He described Marka-e-Haq not just as a military achievement but also as a validation of the Two-Nation Theory, which is the ideological foundation of Pakistan. He affirmed the nation’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and protecting vital interests, including water resources.

He also stressed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and resolving regional and international issues through dialogue and diplomacy. The Prime Minister urged India to show the same commitment, especially in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir conflict.

Calling for national unity, he emphasized the need to channel the spirit of Marka-e-Haq and the Pakistan Movement to build a strong and stable economy—essential for national defence and sovereignty. He extended a sincere invitation to all political parties and social groups to join the government in protecting Pakistan’s core interests.
