Lahore/Karachi: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will celebrate its 58th foundation day with rallies and ceremonies across the country on Sunday, with the central event to be led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Karachi.

According to party sources, PPP chapters have finalized arrangements for district-level celebrations nationwide. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s address at a major rally in Korangi, Karachi will be broadcast live on SMD screens installed at party gatherings across Pakistan.

In Lahore, the main celebration will be held at Bilawal Park, Aitchison Society on Raiwind Road. Senior PPP leaders Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Imtiaz Safdar Warraich will attend as special guests, PPP Central Punjab Information Secretary Shahzad Saeed Cheema said.

Sharjeel Memon: PPP’s 58-year journey rooted in sacrifice

In Karachi, Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said the PPP’s 58-year history was marked by “unparalleled sacrifices and services for Pakistan.”

Addressing a press conference, Memon said the party had organized celebratory events across the country, where workers would cut cakes and gather to watch Chairman Bilawal’s live address.

He said the PPP’s legacy included major national milestones — from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto initiating Pakistan’s nuclear programme and giving the country its first unanimous constitution, to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto advancing missile technology and becoming a global voice for women’s rights.

Memon also praised President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for their contributions, noting Bilawal’s “courageous” stance on Kashmir as foreign minister.

PPP’s development footprint highlighted

The minister said the PPP had consistently defended democracy, endured imprisonment, and fought terrorism over five decades.

Highlighting governance in Sindh, Memon said the provincial government was building 2.1 million free houses for flood-affected citizens and issuing ownership rights to women — a welfare initiative he claimed had no precedent globally. He also cited Thar coal as the “cheapest source of electricity in Pakistan,” acknowledged by experts.

He said Pakistani farmers were neglected in recent years while foreign farmers were favoured, adding that Bilawal Bhutto had strongly raised his voice on the issue.

Remarks on India, PTI founder, and Karachi’s development

Responding to questions, Memon said Pakistan had given a firm response to India during past military escalations and had “shot down an Indian aircraft decisively.” He added that Pakistan’s armed forces had consistently defeated India despite ongoing challenges.

He said the founder of the PTI was receiving all required facilities in jail and was “conspiring with hostile foreign forces” rather than facing legal proceedings. PTI workers, he said, should fight their cases in court instead of maligning national institutions.

Commenting on Karachi, the minister said the city was once ahead of Dubai and had trams even before Pakistan’s creation. He said garbage collection operations had improved and work on water supply projects was under way.

Memon added that the PPP expected Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to become the next prime minister with public support.
