Police Station on Wheels Brings Essential Services Across Islamabad
APP
Islamabad: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has introduced its AI enabled Police Station on Wheels program, a mobile van offering on site policing at public venues across the capital, running daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Technology and Impact
The unit is tightly linked to Islamabad’s Safe City network, which includes about 3,257 surveillance cameras. Real-time crime mapping, facial recognition, drone assistance, and emergency response are all possible capabilities. Particularly for those aged sixty and above, Inspector General Rizvi notes, it is approved to register FIRs across the city and grant driving licences.
How the Mobile Unit Helps People
Citizens can seek general help, file an FIR, get character certificates, or conduct criminal record checks all without traveling to a conventional police station by visiting the mobile station. Under the direction of Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the project seeks to improve access especially for women, the elderly, and working people.
Location Schedule This Week
The van will be positioned at I8 Markaz on Wednesday, July 30, 2025; I10 Markaz on Thursday, July 31, 2025; District Court G11 on Tuesday, July 29, 2025; and Fatima Jinnah Park (F9 Park) on Monday, July 28, 2025. Then, to enable direct public service outreach, it will serve citizens near Faisal Masjid on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Pakistan Monument on Saturday, August 2, 2025, and at DamaneKoh Chowk on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Pilot Phase Objectives
The mobile unit processed almost 7,000 complaints over a two-month pilot. On July 22, 2024, a woman filed the first FIR through the unit. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was presented the first honorary licence granted by the mobile station during the inauguration event in a symbolic moment.
Community Perspective and Response
Citizens have embraced increasing visibility and accessibility of police in their surroundings. Police officials characterize the project as a “moving institution of law and justice,” component of a wider Safe City reform plan including online women’s police stations and e-challan systems. Authorities say the effort would eventually grow to run 24 hours for maximum reach and effect by regularly changing sites.
