PMDC Launches Online Portal For Doctors’ Transition To PMDC
News Desk
Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has launched an interactive online portal to facilitate doctors’ transition from the PMC (Pakistan Medical Commission) to the PMDC across the country.
According to a PMDC official, the Council started its registration portal as a priority after making all necessary arrangements. “We invite all the local graduates to apply online for registration.”
“One of the objectives of PMDC is to make the registration portal seamless to use, easy to navigate, and user-friendly,” he stated.
“These graduates, who are approximately over 10,000, waited for quite a long time to get them permanently registered but failed due to the rigid rules imposed by the past PMC,” he added.
The official informed that 1,500 registration certificates were issued on the first day and the PMDC also began issuing good-standing certificates and renewals. The Council continued issuing permanent registration certificates to Pakistani doctors, without the requirement of the National Licensing Examination (NLE).
Even after graduating from Pakistani medical and dental colleges, local graduates were required to take and pass the NLE exam under the former PMC rule in order to obtain their permanent registration, he added.
In this regard, several protests and demonstrations were organised by various doctor forums and organisations at various levels, and the previous administration was constantly urged to revoke the aforementioned black law.
The PMC law had previously required that the NLE be completed by medical and dental school graduates from Pakistan, which had drawn harsh criticism from the doctors.
He said keeping in view the demand of the doctors, on the direction of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination(NHSRC) Federal Minister Abdul Qadir Patel this step was taken after signing the concerned legislation by President Alvi.
The PMDC official said that the PMDC immediately after the ordinance’s promulgation made sure that the registration portal was accurate and secure enough to store doctors’ private information. It also developed a system that allowed for the safe payment of application fees and a system for managing and tracking applications.
As per the new Law of the PMDC Act 2022, the exam for foreign graduates NRE has been introduced for Pakistani graduates having undergraduate degrees from foreign Institutions.
He told that passing the NRE would be required in order to receive a complete registration, and that the NRE would mostly consist of computer-based, objective multiple-choice questions with a practical component.
PMDC Registrar said, “We appreciate the recommendations from the medical fraternity across the nation and we provide full facilitation to reach out and answer the complaints of every medical professional and facilitate to the utmost.”
