PMD Issues Heatwave Alert, Urges Citizens to Take Precautions
News Desk
Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert and advised citizens across the country to take necessary precautions amid rising temperatures and changing weather conditions.
According to PMD, hot and dry weather is expected to prevail in many parts of the country, with temperatures likely to soar 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal. In Karachi, the heatwave is forecasted to persist from April 20 to 23, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching 40°C and humidity levels ranging between 40 percent and 50 percent. The suspension of sea breezes is contributing to the intensifying heat.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid direct sunlight, remain indoors during peak hours, and stay well-hydrated.
In contrast, Islamabad is expected to receive thunderstorms today, with a high of 31°C and a low of 19°C. The capital has a 100 percent chance of precipitation, accompanied by southeast winds blowing at 10–15 mph.
Meanwhile, cloudy weather is predicted in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. A low-pressure system is currently bringing partly cloudy skies and is likely to cause rain and wind in Islamabad in the coming days.
