PMD Forecasts Rain, Snowfall; Advises Travelers to Stay Alert

News Desk

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall in hilly areas from December 30 to January 2, with intermittent breaks in fog, and has advised travelers to remain cautious during the period.

Speaking to a local news channel on Monday, PMD Director Muhammad Irfan Virk said that seasonal winter rains have begun entering Balochistan and are expected to reach parts of Sindh within the next 24 to 48 hours.

He said that by January 2, Islamabad and its surrounding hilly areas are likely to receive rainfall, while northern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) may experience intermittent snowfall.

Following the rainfall, temperatures are expected to drop by two to three degrees Celsius, he added.

The PMD director noted that fog conditions may temporarily ease during rainfall but are likely to intensify again once the rains subside.

Responding to a question, he said snowfall in hilly areas has shown a declining trend compared to previous years.

In his concluding remarks, Muhammad Irfan Virk urged travelers not to panic, stating that only light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected during the forecast period.

“Stay alert, plan ahead, and enjoy the winter weather while keeping a close watch on weather updates and road conditions,” he advised.
