Pindi Admin Cracks Down on Price Gouging, Arrests 175

Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, Hassan Waqar Cheema, has emphasized the administration’s commitment to mitigating the prices of essential commodities.

He noted that 50 magistrates have been deployed to monitor the prices of food items across Rawalpindi district.

Additionally, he reported that during March, over 175 shopkeepers engaged in profiteering were apprehended.

The DC revealed that 21 cases were filed and 19 shops were shuttered due to the sale of substandard goods.

Furthermore, fines totaling over Rs 4.2 million were imposed on retailers found guilty of profiteering. Nearly 36,000 inspections were carried out, resulting in the investigation of around 1665 violations.

In comparison to Islamabad, the price of onions in Rawalpindi is reportedly Rs 100 lower.

He explained that Islamabad hosts a significant wholesale market under the administration’s control. Moreover, Cheema disclosed the establishment of a new market in Rawat, where vegetable and fruit prices are being monitored to alleviate citizens’ burdens.

In response to public needs, an Agriculture Fair Price Shop and wholesale market have been set up upon the Punjab Government’s directives. Furthermore, citizens are benefitting from wholesale rates at the Ramazan Sasta Bazaar, situated outside Nawaz Sharif Park on Murree Road.
