PHC Seeks Helicopter, Tourist Safety Reports

News Desk

Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sought comprehensive reports on helicopter availability and safety arrangements for tourists after hearing a case related to the recent drowning of tourists in the Swat River.

A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice SM Atiq Shah, presided over the hearing. The Chief Justice expressed concern over the absence of the Commissioner of Malakand Division and questioned the status of the inquiry officer and the investigation’s progress. He ordered that the Chairman of the Inquiry Committee be summoned immediately.

Appearing before the court, the Chairman informed the bench that the committee had visited Swat following the tragic incident and was finalizing a detailed report, expected to be submitted within seven days.

He also revealed that preliminary findings had identified several departmental lapses, which would be addressed in the final report.

The court directed the Commissioner Malakand and the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand to submit formal written reports. It also instructed authorities to provide a comprehensive report detailing safety measures currently in place for tourists.

Representing the petitioner, the lawyer argued that two helicopters were available at the time of the incident and, according to the aviation report, rescue operations could have been carried out.

The court adjourned the hearing until the required reports are submitted.
