Petrol, Diesel Costs Increased Till October 15

Islamabad:The federal government on Tuesday announced another hike in petroleum prices, raising the cost of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by more than Rs4 per litre for the next fortnight, effective until October 15.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, the revision was made on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and other ministries concerned.
With the latest increase, the price of petrol has gone up from Rs264.61 to Rs268.68 per litre, reflecting an upward revision of Rs4.07. Similarly, the price of HSD has risen from Rs272.77 to Rs276.18 per litre, marking an increase of Rs4.04.
In the previous review, petrol prices were kept unchanged while HSD was raised by Rs2.78 per litre.
Petrol is mainly consumed by motorcycles, rickshaws, and small cars, making the hike particularly burdensome for low- and middle-income households who rely on it for daily commuting.
High-speed diesel, however, has wider economic implications as it is heavily used in trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery, including tractors and tube wells. Economists warn that the increase will likely drive up transportation costs and add to inflation, especially by pushing up the prices of vegetables and other essential food items.
