Peshawar Road Underpasses Project Launched

Rawalpindi: Construction work on underpasses along Peshawar Road has formally begun, marking another major milestone in Rawalpindi’s ongoing flyovers and underpasses development project.

The underpasses form part of a broader infrastructure initiative that includes flyovers and underpasses at Kachehri Chowk, Jinnah Park, Iftekhar Janjua Road, and the remodeling of Ammar Chowk.

Executive Engineer (EXEN) of the Punjab Highways Department Rana Qamar Ali confirmed to APP that the Peshawar Road underpasses project was officially initiated on Sunday.

“Concrete batching plants have been established, technical investigations are underway, and a construction camp has been set up at the site,” he said, adding that essential machinery has also been mobilized.

Rana Qamar Ali said the project is aimed at improving traffic flow on Peshawar Road, a major two-way bottleneck connecting Saddar with GT Road, the motorway, and densely populated cantonment areas.

He said the underpasses would play a vital role in easing congestion at some of the city’s busiest intersections. Upon completion, the route from Ammar Chowk to Motorway Chowk will become fully signal-free, significantly reducing travel time for daily commuters.

The Punjab government is currently implementing multiple billion-rupee infrastructure projects to transform Rawalpindi into a signal-free corridor, including the mega development project at Kachehri Chowk.

Residents have welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the projects will be completed within stipulated timelines to address long-standing traffic congestion issues.
