Pakistani Film ‘Jaman Ka Darakht’ Won Cannes Award

Islamabad: A short film titled “Jaman Ka Darakht,” featuring actor Adnan Siddiqui in a negative character, has garnered recognition at the prestigious Cannes World Film Festival (CWFF).

The director of the film, Rafi Rashidi, took to Instagram to announce that “Jaman Ka Darakht” has clinched the award for ‘Best Social Justice Short Film’. 

He extended congratulations to the entire cast of the film.

Cannes World Film Festival, held in France, serves as a platform for showcasing a plethora of feature and short films worldwide, including web series.

Pakistani cinema has previously made its mark at Cannes, with both short and feature films earning selections and accolades.

The trailer of “Jaman Ka Darakht” was unveiled in January, showcasing Adnan Siddiqui in a negative role. 

The trailer hints at Siddiqui’s character, Kareem, engaging in flirtatious behavior with women associated with the showbiz and fashion industry.

Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the storyline, the director emphasized that the film delves into themes of relationships and consent between men and women.

Adnan Siddiqui’s portrayal of Kareem portrays him as a prominent figure in the media industry while simultaneously exploiting women.

The story for “Jaman Ka Darakht” is penned by B Gill, with production handled by Faisal Kapadia. The film is slated for release under director Rafi Rashidi’s production banner, with him also taking the directorial reins.
