Pakistan Unveils Lunar Mission Plans at COPUOS

Islamabad: Muhammad Yousuf Khan, Chairman of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), emphasized that outer space is a common heritage of humanity and reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to its peaceful use.

He made these remarks during the inaugural session of the 67th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), which is being held in Vienna and will run until June 28.

In his address, Chairman SUPARCO highlighted the importance of equitable and non-discriminatory access to outer space, according to a news release. He proudly showcased.

Pakistan’s recent achievements, including the successful launches of the iCUBE-Qamar satellite and the Pakistan Multi-Mission Communication Satellite, PakSat-MM1, both launched this May. Additionally, he announced plans for a future rover mission to the lunar south pole in collaboration with China’s Chang’e-8 Mission.

Earlier, on June 18, the Chairman attended the Lunar Conference organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), where he discussed Pakistan’s commitment to lunar exploration and international cooperation in space research.
