Pakistan to Launch First Green-Tech Hub

News Desk

Islamabad: The Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has announced the upcoming launch of Pakistan’s first Green-Tech Hub (G-TH), a state-of-the-art facility aimed at transforming the country’s energy landscape and reducing its carbon footprint through the promotion of green technologies and renewable energy solutions.

Speaking as the chief guest at a webinar on the creation of G-TH, organized by Paklaunch.com in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Alam emphasized that this initiative is backed by the Government of Pakistan, in partnership with private sector stakeholders, academic institutions, and international green technology leaders.

The hub aims to position Pakistan as a regional leader in sustainable innovation.

Alam also revealed that efforts are underway to showcase impactful projects at the Pakistan Pavilion during the upcoming UN-led global climate summit (COP29), scheduled for November 11 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This summit is expected to attract 40,000 to 50,000 delegates from over 192 countries.

“Showcasing initiatives at COP29 aims to attract global and local investors to finance projects that will help Pakistan achieve its environmental sustainability and climate resilience goals,” she stated.

The summit will focus on critical issues, including the finalization of an enhanced transparency framework and the establishment of a new collective quantified goal on climate finance, alongside discussions on adaptation, mitigation, technology transfer, and technical know-how.

Alam expressed hope that the G-TH would serve as a strategic connector, linking Pakistani innovators with global investors to leverage climate finance for the projects showcased at the COP29. She emphasized that the hub would align with Pakistan’s adaptation and mitigation priorities.

“The future of technology is green, and the G-TH will showcase the best of Pakistan’s talent and innovation,” Alam remarked, adding that the hub would serve as an incubator for green startups and a research center for advanced technologies, promoting collaboration among innovators focused on environmental challenges.

Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Aisha Humera, highlighted the urgent need for technology transfer and technical know-how to promote green energy use and achieve the country’s environmental goals.

She stated that the G-TH would showcase Pakistan’s readiness to harness new opportunities and attract investment in a green-tech carbon credit policy framework.

Aisha emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to launch joint green energy ventures and promote Pakistan as a nation of problem solvers.

She noted that the G-TH would collaborate closely with local industries, universities, and international environmental organizations to foster partnerships that accelerate eco-friendly solutions.

The secretary further pointed out that various companies in Pakistan are already working in sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs), solar solutions, artificial intelligence, and smart metering, reflecting the country’s commitment to supporting green energy technologies.

The G-TH is set to be a world-class innovation center, equipped with research labs, testing centers, co-working spaces, and conference rooms to facilitate collaboration and drive innovation in green technology.
