Pakistan Sets Sights on Moon Mission in 2026

Islamabad: Pakistan marked 2025 as a landmark year for its space program, with the SUPARCO Director Shafaat Ali announcing ambitious plans for the coming years, including a Moon mission in 2026 and the country’s first astronaut flight to China’s space station.
Speaking to a local media channel on Friday, Director Ali described 2025 as a turning point for Pakistan in space technology and exploration, highlighting the country’s growing capabilities and international collaboration.
“2025 will be remembered as a historic milestone for Pakistan,” he said, noting that the nation successfully launched three satellites for the first time in its history. He emphasized that continued collaboration with China will enable Pakistan to expand its space presence in 2026.
According to the Director, the upcoming year will see multiple satellite launches and significant strides toward more ambitious goals, including missions to the Moon and Mars. By the end of 2026, Pakistan plans to send its first astronaut to China’s space station, setting a new benchmark in international space cooperation.
Director Ali also highlighted the importance of space education, stating that government-backed programs are being launched to inspire and equip the next generation with skills for future space exploration.
He stressed that these initiatives aim to strengthen Pakistan’s capabilities in science and technology while fostering interest among students in space research and innovation.
“Partnerships like the one between Pakistan and China not only advance scientific exploration but also demonstrate the potential of international collaboration in achieving groundbreaking milestones,” he added.
With 2025 already shaping up as a breakthrough year, Pakistan’s space program is positioning itself for historic achievements on both a national and global scale in the coming years.
